What is Mauni Amavasya?
Mauni is taken from the Sanskrit word ‘maun’ and ‘Amavasya’ refers to the no-moon day or a day on which no new moon will be visible in the sky. On this day, people in this region do not speak for the entire day or at least for several days and also take bath in the Ganga River for long life and prosperity
Thus, out of the 13 Amavasya, Mauni Amavasya is considered to be the midpoint of the Magha month in the Hindu calendar system. This should be the day for men and women to offer puja to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.

1. On this day people honor the birth of Rishi Manu.
2. People believe their ancestors, along with Lord Shiva and Vishnu, come to Ganga during this day.
3. It is also believed that people taking a holy dip in the Ganga River on this Amavasya leads to Salvation and cleansing of all sins.
4. In a few parts of northern India, like Uttar Pradesh, people also take baths in Triveni Sangam.

For people who are fasting on Mauni Amavasya in 2025 for the first time, the mentioned rituals and rules should work great. Follow these simple rituals and steps to complete your vrat successfully
1. The ritual begins with purifying the mind, body, and soul. On Mauni Amavasya Snan Muhurat starts from 3:30 Am to 6:00 Am. Add some drops of Ganga Jal when you are bathing.
2. After bathing, offer water to Lord Sun and while offering water you should recite Lord Surya's mantra.
3. Now take the vow of silence but before it meditates by remembering Lord Vishnu.
4. Now you have to keep silent and meditate to take blessings from lord Vishnu and Shiva until the completion of the fast.
5. Consider Mauni Amavasya Daan of food, clothes, and other important items to the poor and needy to complete the rituals.
