    New Year 2024

    The new year is bang on the doors and with the end of December, the year 2023 will fall into the new year 2024. With the new year, we have a lot of hope and expectation. Everyone wants a good year ahead and wishes that all their dreams and goals will come true.

    All over the globe, people welcome the new year with some hope and excitement. Some party, some travel with their loved ones while some welcome the new year after doing various activities. If we talk about countries then, different countries celebrate the new year in their way. In India, most people start their new year with the blessing of God. In some homes of India new year is celebrated with puja and some visit temples to take the blessing of God. Other than this people will send sweet messages and wish their loved ones “Happy New Year”.


    History of New Year

    The different countries of the world including America will celebrate the new year on 1st January. The tradition of celebration of a new year is very as it started on 15th October 1582. The 1st person to make a change in the Roman calendar is Roman king Numa Pompilus, who decided January as the 1st month of the year. Earlier march is considered as the 1st month of the year. As per that, Calander has 10 months in a year, and the number of days is 310 days, and in a week, there are eight days.

    Roman ruler Julius Caesar started a new year on the 1st of January. After consulting with astronomers, Julius Caesar gets to know that the earth revolves around the sun in 365 days and 6 hours. Taking this in mind he modified a calendar to 365 days instead of 310 days, and in Julian’s Calander he modified 12 months instead 10 months in a year.


    Beginning of New Year Resolution 

    Make a new start and want to achieve a few things in your life, then New Year’s Resolution will be a good option. The world is ready to welcome the new year 2024. In last year 2023 people resolved to complete their tasks and also learn from there last year mistakes. We want to tell you that taking resolutions in the new year is not introduced recently, but it is a 5000-year-old tradition. It is said that the revolution tradition originated during the period of the Babylonian Civilization of Mesopotamia and on this day people of Babylonian gave promises to each other. People also promise to repay their loans and also make good relations with their neighbors. New year resolution is considered very lucky in China.


    5 different times the new year is celebrated in India

    India is a country who have different religions like Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, Jewish and more. All these religions have their tradition of celebrating the new year. All over the world, countries follow the Christian tradition of the New Year. As per Christian Calander year begins on 1st January and ends on 31st December. The date or thithi is different in all religions. The special thing is the traditions differ in the world; the celebration of a new year is done on the 1st of January in India.

    1. Christian New Year

    In Christian tradition, the new year starts on 1st January. The celebration of a new year is based on the Gregorian Calendar.

    1. Parsi New Year

    The Parsi people celebrate the new year on their Navroz festival. Navroz stands for a new day and the new year is celebrated as a Navroz festival in the Parsi culture. The festival is celebrated in July and August.

    1. Punjabi New Year

    Punjabi welcome the new year as a Baisakhi festival. The festival is on the 13th or 14th of April. Sikhs celebrate the new year after the second day of Holi as per the Nanak Shahi calendar.

    1. Hindu New Year

    The Hindu New Year starts with Shukla paksha Pratipada of Chitra month. It is believed that lord Brahma created the universe at the instruction of lord shiva. After this the day will mark a new year of Vikram Samvat as per the English Calander, the day comes in March or April.

    1. Jain New Year

    Jainism starts their new year after the day of the Diwali festival. The day is known as veer nirvana Samvat.

    In various countries, the new year will be celebrated with strange traditions and you are going to be surprised to know that.

    1. The twelve grapes of luck

    In Spain, there is a tradition that in New Year people eat 12 grapes. As it is considered good luck in the new year.  There is a belief that it is considered unlucky for people if they do not eat grapes with bells. In every new year bells ring at noon and at eat 1 grape with every bell.

    1. Giving an offering to the goddess of the sea

    In Brazil, the new year is celebrated in a very different way. People will welcome the new year by throwing white flowers in the ocean. And also, people throw perfume, jewelry, and makeup items in the ocean.

    1. Breaking plates

    Danish people throw and break their old utensils to welcome the new year 2024. Doing this will bring good luck so people will be going to collect their utensils in advance and start throwing and breaking them.

    1. First footing Hogmanay

    In Scotland, people wait a tall, dark, and handsome men as a guest. This sounds wearied but this is the oldest tradition of Scotland. The belief is that a person with this character will step into the house and bring good luck.

    1. Wearing colorful underwear

    The tradition of wearing colorful underwear is popular in South America. This is the belief that if a person wants a new partner in life, then he/she should wear red-colored underwear. Want peace in life then wear white underwear. There are different colors chosen for everything.

    1. Joya- no- Kane (Ringing New Year’s bell 108 times)

    In Japan, there is a tradition that in the new year, it will ring bells 108 times. This is believed that this tradition frees a person from 108 worries.
