    Pausha Amavasya 2024: Date, Time, Puja Rituals and Significance

    Pausha Amavasya 2024 holds great importance among Hindus as the first Amavasya in 2024. This is a time to worship the ancestors and perform Pitru tarpan and Pind Daan.

    Those who have bed placement of the moon in their birth chart should give water to the moon and take a dip in the holy river “Ganga”. Puja Vidhi includes taking a holy bath, offering Arghya to lord Surya, and performing Hawan and yajna.

But Pausha Amavasya held in the month of Pausha. Pausha Amavasya is known as auspicious for performing Pitru puja. This is a time to worship the ancestors and perform Pitru tarpan and Pind Daan. This day is known as an auspicious day to perform any religious and spiritual activities.

    Those who have a bed placement of the moon in their birth chart should give water to the moon and take a dip in the holy river “Ganga”. People who are influenced by Saturn and under Shani sadhe sati or Maha Dasha, are recommended to light a Diya with mustered oil under the peepal tree.

    • Those who are not able to visit holy places to take a dip in the Ganga River, invite Brahmin or priests at home for pitru tarpan or pitru puja and offer them Dakshina, food, and clothes.
    • It is worth performing hawan and yajna on this day.
    • It is beneficial to feed cows, dogs, and ants on Amavasya day.
    • People also organize pitru Gayatri to bring peace to their ancestors.
    • It is beneficial to read Bhagavad Gita on this day.
    • Those who chant Vishnu sahasranaama can get rid of pitru dosha.
