What is Ravi Pradosh Vrat?
The word Pradosh comes from Pradosham which means removing bad karmic deeds. This day is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Maa Paravati, keeping fast and worshipping them to get blessings and happiness in our lives. This festival is also dedicated to Lord Sun.
It happens on the 13th Lunar month, an auspicious time for worship. People do different puja rituals on this day to remove sins and fulfill their wishes.

Ravi Pradosh Vrat Katha
Ravi Pradosh Vrat has a beautiful story behind it. A poor Brahmin boy lived with his parents and one day he went to the bank of the Ganga River and was caught by 2 thieves.
They asked him to give them whatever he had and he replied that he had no money but only some food for his mother. Listening to this, thieves left him and he went to the city. He felt tired and sat below a banyan tree.
At that time, 2 soldiers of the king’s palace came to find the thieves. They saw the boy and took the boy to the king’s palace.
King saw Lord Shiva in his dreams.
The king ordered the men to send him to jail and at night his parents got tensed as their son didn’t reach home. The next day was Ravi Pradosh Vrat so her mother observed the fast with true devotion and worshipped Lord Shiva to get her son back.
Lord Shiva was pleased with her devotion. The king saw Lord Shiva in his dreams on the same day, ordering him to free the child. The next day, the king freed the boy from jail as he said everything honestly to the king.
He ordered his men to send him back to his home and also gifted him 5 villages. After this, they begin living life happily. This all happened because of Surya Pradosh Vrat. So, if anyone keeps a fast on this day, they will solve all the problems and lead a happy life.

Importance of Pradosh Vrat rituals
We need to follow these rituals on Ravi Pradosh Vrat 2025:
1. Wake up early in the morning, take a shower, and begin the rituals.
2. Start your fast after only eating fruits.
3. Place the idol or Shivalinga in a clean place.
4. Offer milk, water, and honey to Shivalinga.
5. After this offer, Dhatura, Bilva leaves flowers, sandalwood, light incense sticks, etc.
6. Recite Lord Shiva's mantra “Om Namah Shivya” and lord Surya Mantra's “Om Ghrinin Surya Namah”.
7. Try to avoid negativity on this day if you chant these 2 mantras.
8. After Puja, distribute sweets and halwa to other family members.
9. After this, break the fast and eat a vegetarian meal.
