    Tourism of Lakshadweep

Though the Lakshadweep retreat may appear as a few unimportant dots on the map of India, it is, in fact, a shining diamond, and emerald, a dotted jewel that enhances India’s southwestern border. It is one of the few marvels left untouched by the intruding hands of industrialization and progress.

The white beaches, the lagoons that wash its bank with the coral shoals that enclose it, and finally the deep blue sea, all these are mutually linked with each other. And when all these are added, Lakshadweep is no longer the smallest of India’s territories but the largest.

    Location

The total area of 35 islands is just 32 sq Km and the area of lagoons surrounded by coral shoals is about 700 sq Km, the expanded sea zone is more than 7,00,000 sq Km. This almost makes it the size of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh together.

Out of 12 islands with 35 islands, only one island in each of them is occupied. The lagoons are superficial, never more than a couple of meters deep. Just as the sands on the beaches are pure white and sugary, the waters of the lagoons are transparent.
