    According to Hindu, there are more than 49 gotra. But people generally follow these 7 major types of gotras.

    1. Atri: The lineage of Atri Gotra is related to the sage Atri. According to Hindu mythology, he is considered to be one of the mind-born sons of Brahma. People with Atri gotra should avoid marriage in the same gotra as they have to face challenges.
    2. Bharadvaja: The lineage of Bharadvaja Gotra is related to the sage Bharadvaja. He is considered Manasputra of Brahma and he is also known for his deep knowledge of Vedas.
    3. Gautam Maharishi: The lineage of Gautam Maharishi is related to sage Gautam Maharishi. His teachings highlight truth through logical reasoning and righteousness.
    4. Jamadagni: The lineage of Jamadagni gotra is related to sage Jamadagni, the father of warrior and sage Parashurama. This gotra shows its warrior spirit linked with spiritual faith.
    5. Kashyapa: The lineage of Kashyapa gotra is related to sage Kashyapa. He was the father of many gods, demons, serpents, and humans. He married Daksha’s 13 daughters and had many children from them.
    6. Vasishta: The lineage of Vasishta Gotra is related to the sage Vashishta. He was the guru of the Ikshvaku dynasty, which also included Lord Rama. He is also known for his deep knowledge of Vedas, spiritual wisdom, and ability to perform strong rituals.
    7. Vishvamitra: The Vishvamitra gotra related to Sage Vishvamitra. He is known for his strict restrictions and is known for composing Gayatri Mantra. His journey from warrior king to Brahma Rishi shows his great determination and amazing spiritual growth.
