    Significance: Ganga Dussehra 2024

    The Dashami tithi of Shukla paksha in the month of Jyeshta, goddess Ganga slants from Shiva’s locks to earth during the Hasta Nakshatra, Vyatipat Yoga, Gar Karana ana Anand yoga. hence, auspicious rituals performed in haste nakshatra are considered fruitful. Ganga Dussehra is a day when we worship Ganga Mata, believed to give salvation to ancestors, bless sons and grandsons, and fulfill wishes.     Puja Vidhi: Ganga Dussehra 2024

    1. Bathing: It is a ritual to take a bath in the holy Ganga River on this day. If this is not possible then mix ganga water in regular water and bath at home at Brahma Muhurat.
    2. Mantra chanting: Chant Mantra "Om Namo Gangayai Vishwaroopini Narayani Namo Namah" while taking a bath.
    3. Ancestor worship: Offer water to ancestors by the riverside to satisfy their souls.
    4. Donation: - After all the rituals are done, then donate things to Brahmin or a needy person.

    According to mythology, King Bhagirath’s punishment pleased lord Brahma, who gave him a boom. Bhagirath requested that the goddess Ganga should be sent to earth. Brahma warned him that the force and weight were too much for Earth to handle, possibly causing destruction. Therefore, lord shiva was considered to handle Ganga’s descent.
