    Guru Purnima is the day to show the importance of the “Guru” or “teacher”.

    According to experts, it is a guru who gives individuals a vicious cycle of life and death and helps them realize the reality of the conscience.

    Guru Purnima is celebrated on Purnima in the month of Ashadha, according to the Hindu calendar. It generally falls in July or August according to the Hindu calendar. In 2024, Guru Purnima is going to be celebrated on 21st July on Sunday.

    Guru Purnima 2024: Spiritual Significance

    According to Hinduism: Guru Purnima celebrates the birth of Ved Vyasa, one of the famous sages who edited Vedas divided into four, he also wrote the 5th Veda and Mahabharata. It is believed that on guru Purnima the prayers directly reach the Maha guru and his blessings will protect us from darkness and ignorance from disciplined life.

    According to Buddhism: On Guru Purnima, Gautam Buddha delivered his 1st teaching to his first five disciplines after he went from Bodhgaya to Sarnath. After this, the community of his disciples was formed.

    According to Jainism: Lord Mahavira became the “guru” and this day is celebrated to venerate Mahavira.

    According to history, this day is also important for farmers as they worship God for giving them rain for the next harvest.

    Guru Purnima 2024: Rituals

    In Hindus, people worshipping a guru who acts as the guiding light in their life. in many places, Vyasa puja is held where mantras are chanted to respect the “Guru”. Believers offer flowers and gifts as a token of respect and prasad is also distributed. Devotional and religious songs are chanted. The holy text Guru Gita is chanted in the guru’s memory.

    Sage’s sandals are worship and many disciplines are arranged in different ashrams. People gather at this place where the seat of their guru lies, devoting themselves to his teaching and principles.

    Guru Purnima, I also dedicated to guru bhai or fellow disciples and believers expressing their unity towards each other in their journey of spiritualism.

    Many individuals start their spiritual journey on this day. This process is known as “Diksha”.

    Buddhists practice the eight teachings of Buddha on this day. This ritual is known as “Uposatha”. With the arrival of the rainy season, Buddhist monks started meditation and adopted other monastic practices from that day.

    Many passionate students of Indian classical music pay tribute to their gurus on this day and rehearse guru Shishya Parampara, which has been indigenous to Indian cultures for ages.
