What is Vaikasi Visakam in Tamil: The birthday of Lord Murugan

Lord Murugan was born to celebrate his birth. He was born for the purpose of protecting the world from evil. The demon Surapadman became so powerful, filled with disturbance and a dire threat to the balance of the world. The gods needed a solution to defeat the demon’s growing strength.

Thus, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati devised a plan to send the savior. Shiva with his 3rd eye, released a brilliant flash of divine energy, filled to produce a mighty creature strong enough to vanquish demons and restore cosmic tranquility. The spark split into 6 parts and fell into the Ganga River.

The goddess Parvati assembled all the parts and built them into a boy called Sara Vana. They brought up Murugan in their care, and he grew up into a great warrior. He is the god of knowledge, and he also instructed Lord Shiva about the significance of "Om".

He is also referred to as Lord Arumugam, has 6 faces and 6 different temples in different locations known as Arupadai Veedu in Tamil Nadu.
