Why eyes of Ram Lalla hold a special significance?
When the scarf was removed from the eye of Ram Lalla's idol in Ayodhya, the whole world looked amazed. The eye of lord Ram Lalla caught everyone’s attention, and sculptor Arun Yogiraj proved why he was the best.
After the “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony, images of the idol were shared extensively, but Ram Lalla’s eyes were covered, and the idol came to life when the eyes were revealed. The lotus eyes of divine nature said people.
Greatly admire and appreciate the beautiful craftsmanship of Mysore-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj in creating the unique Ram Lalla idol. There is a special divine blessing in the eyes written by Amitabh Kant, India’s G20 sherpa and former CEO of Niti Aayog.
Why Arun Yogiraj is the best
He said he spent the last seven months emotionally engaged in a project, while being disconnected from the outer world and spent a lot of time with kids. He was used to asking his friend if Ram Lalla’s eyes were turning out to be good. He also said that when he was carving Ram Lalla’s eye was different than now. He also realized that it was not his job as God had taken a new look altogether.
He also shares the challenges faced in stone carving, he said, in this stone, I have only one chance to work. It is very difficult to carve complex designs out of black stones, be it granite or any other stone. The eye was filled with Karuna, they carry Prashant Bhaw. There were 3 sculptors whose idols were being considered for the “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony, while the other two idols worked in “Shyam Shila” and “Shwet Shila”.
The fifth-generation sculptor from Karnataka “Arun Yogiraj” whose idol was finally chosen for the 22nd January celebration. Prime Minister of India “Narendra Modi” was the chief guest of the ceremony.
The Ram Lalla’s idol face shape is round, which is widely used in sculptures of south India. Sculptures of the north carry several sharper features. Sculptures of Odisha and Bengal also carry some round faces.
Why eyes of Ram Lalla hold a special significance?
The eyes are considered the most important feature. The ritualistic opening of the idol’s eyes, known as “Netronmilan” in few places, marks the end of the “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony, where deity’s presence is prayed to the idol, transforming it from a sculpture to a living manifestation of the divine.
The eyes of an idol are not only artistic representations, they are believed to be the channel for the sun and moon’s energy symbolizing the universal forces of creation and preservation. The “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony has a series of rituals running into days. The main moment arrives when the eyes are opened with holy water and flowers, marking the completion of the ceremony. This act is not only a symbolic awakening but also an announcement that the deity now resides within the idol, ready to interact with believers.
Hinduism views idols not as just an objective of worship but as physical manifestations of the divine, designed with implant symbolism that conveys the features and stories of the Gods they show. Whether it is lord shiva’s third eye or lord Ganesha’s elephant face, each feature is filled with meaning, and none more so than the eyes, which will bring the idol to life.
This is where Arun Yogiraj was scored. He made various iconic statues, but from now on, he will be known as “The sculptor of Ram Lalla idol”. And all of this because of Ram Lalla’s beautiful eyes.
