    Why Dev Deepawali is celebrated?

There are many stories behind the celebration of Dev Deepawali. Also, Diwali marks the return of lord Rama with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman after 14 years of exile. This celebration does not stop here. Dev Deepawali happens 15 days after Diwali. And it marks the end of Diwali and concludes the Tulsi Vivah ritual. To experience this festival, you should visit Varanasi Ghats.

This festival is also to honor Lord Shiva for defeating three demons: Vidyunmali, Tarakaksha, and Viryavana. They had lord Brahma’s blessings by performing penance that they would not die until they were shot to death by a single arrow. After receiving the boon from God, they begin destroying the earth. And Lord Shiva assumed the form of Tripurari and shot all 3 using a single arrow, to restore happiness, harmony, and bliss.

Apart from this story, few people celebrate the day as the birth anniversary of Lord Karthik. It is also believed the day when Lord Vishnu entered his 1st Avatar “Matsya”.
