Parsva Ekadashi 2024: Methodological story behind the celebration

The story behind Parsva Ekadashi revolves around the demon king Bali and Vishnu’s Vamana avatar. King Bali was a powerful and righteous ruler, who gained great strength and control over 3 worlds through true devotion to Lord Vishnu. Despite his generosity, his growing power threatened gods as he replaced kind, Indra.

As a result, Lord Vamana, the Avtar of Lord Vishnu, a dwarf Brahmin, helps all the deities. King Bali was doing havan when Vamana approached and requested three-half of the land. Bali is known for his unselfishness. Suddenly, Vamana grew into a giant form, covering the entire earth with one step, the second step on heaven, and leaving no space for the 3rd.

King Bali realized that no other common man but Lord Vishnu was a form of Vamana. Bali offered his head for 3rd step. Vamana placed his foot on Bali’s pushing him to Patal Lok. But impressed by Bali’s devotion, Vishnu allowed him to visit his kingdom yearly.

Parsva Ekadashi 2024: Important Rituals

Here are a few rituals of Parsva Ekadashi 2024. Following this instruction, an individual can perform Parsva Ekadashi puja.

1. The believer should wake up before sunrise and take a bath during Brahma Murtha.
2. If you are fasting then take a Sankalp.
3. Then wear clean clothes and start preparation for puja.
4. For puja, place yellow clothes and keep the idol or photos of Lord Vishnu.
5. Offer holy water, Akshat, Tulsi leaves, yellow color flower or lotus, ghee Lamp, Roli, and sandalwood to Lord Vishnu.
6. You can also prepare Panchmrit for Abhishekam. For this, you will need curd, milk, sugar, honey, and ghee.
7. Begin your puja by offering all important ingredients by reciting the Vishnu mantra and Stotram.
8. In the evening, do a special aarti with your family members.
9. Believers should stay awake all night and do bhajans and kirtans as a devotion towards lord Vishnu.
