Pitru Paksha/ Shradh Paksha 2024: Rituals

This is a time to know how to perform Pitru Paksha/ Shradh Paksha rituals. Let’s know all the steps:

1. Pitru Paksha rituals are distributed for 16 lunar days and the shradh ritual is performed on each day.
2. The eldest son will perform Pitru Pooja at home.
3. The person doing the ritual has to wake up early in the morning and take a bath.
4. The person should be bare-chested and it is mandatory to wear a dhoti.
5. Next, the person should wear a ring made of Darbha grass. Mantras are then recited in the belief that the ancestor’s souls are seated in the ring.
6. During this, lord Vishnu and Yama are worshipped.  
7. Pind daan or Tarpan is performed by offering cooked rice, ghee applied barely balls, and black sesame seed to the sun’s hand. Then water is poured over it.
8. And the last step, where cooked food is served to crows and dogs, as they are considered to carry the souls of ancestors.
