Significance of Holi in Vrindavan
As we all know Holi is a festival of color and has been celebrated in India over thousands of years and now it is also celebrated by many communities in South Asia. Holi 2024 in Uttar Pradesh will start on 24th March and end on 25th March.

Holi is celebrated in almost all parts of India. Holi is famous in “Braj”, a historical region that covers the area of Mathura and Vrindavan. Mathura and Vrindavan’s Holi attracts tourists from all over the world due to its unique customs and traditions. Mathura is the birthplace of lord Krishna, and in Vrindavan, he grew up.
When lord Krishna was young, he questioned his mother about Radha being fair while he had a dark complexion. His mother Yashoda suggested he color Radha playfully. Over the year lord Krishna used to go to Banaras to color Radha and other gopis. They beat lord Krishna with sticks and the tradition goes on.

Holi celebration in Banaras
Holi celebrations in Banaras begin a week before the actual date of Holi. Banaras is a village near Mathura, and it was a village of Radha. Banaras is famous for its lath mar Holi, in which women beat a man with a stick. It is a place where Radha lives and lord Krishna comes here to color Radha.
Holi celebration in Nandgaon
The Holi celebration in Nandgaon is similar to the Holi celebration in Banaras. Nandgaon is a place where lord Krishna spent most of his childhood days. When Krishna went to Banaras to put color on Radha the next day Radha and her friends came to Nandgaon to color lord Krishna.
Holi celebration in Vrindavan
The Banke-Bihari Temple in Vrindavan is the place where Holi is celebrated for a week. During these days, the idol of Krishna is dressed up with white color clothes and it is brought closer to the believer to play Holi. Holi is celebrated in Vrindavan with colored water and gulal. The priest of the temple sparks color on everyone with the help of buckets water guns, etc. The environment is made even more great with bhajans and believers dance to the tune of bhajans.

Holi celebration in Mathura
Apart from Banke-Bihari Temple, every other lord Krishna temple in Mathura and Vrindavan has some special celebrations going on for an entire week. The Gulal-Kund in Braj is also interesting place to celebrate Holi. It is a lake near the Govardhan hill. Local people act in Krishna Lila drama for the pilgrims.
